Another hit for Harris
This is the second novel dealing with Marcus Tullius Cicero's rise to power in the Roman senate and society in the first century BCE. Done in the same style as the first novel, as a memoir of Cicreo's personal secretary, a slave named Tiro, it covers the events leading up to the famous Catalinian Conspiracy. Filled with all the political intrigue, corruption, and, of course, adultery for which Rome, on the cusp of slipping from republic to dictatorial empire, is well-known, he has made the people real, while maintaining consistancy with known historical facts.
N. B.:
Conspirata is the American title of this book, Lustrum is the British title. I didn't realize, until I bought both, that they were identical. Quae cum ita sint, nolite Conspirata et Lustrum emere.
