As the Battle of Britain was coming to a close, the Luftwaffe found merit in arming its single-engined fighters with bombs, using them in preference to twin-engined bombers against many daylight targets. In 1941, these attacks tailed off but in the Spring of 1942, recommenced, initially against shipping and coastal targets.
