Very Good in Good jacket. 1949, code B-Y on copyright page (presumed first edition, although no statement on the copyright page, and no date on the title page). Hardcover, black cloth. Very Good in a Good dust jacket. Cloth lightly bumped and frayed at the corners and spine ends; previous owner's neat signature on the fly leaf; clean text; sound binding. The DJ has a long split down the right side of the spine and a small area has been repaired with tape on the blank side; one other tape repair on the blank side as well; spine of the DJ has sunned; chipping and some loss along the edges. Burns' second book, a thinly veiled account of his time at Loomis School in Connecticut. This title was critically panned. Upon Burns' death at 36, Ernest Hemingway said, 'There was a fellow who wrote a fine book and then a stinking book about a prep school, and then he just blew himself up.
