Loving & Free appeared on Elton John's Rocket Records and was co-produced by John, so unsurprisingly it shares some aesthetic and sonic sensibilities with his earliest records; heavy on pretty, hazy ballads with a slight country-rock flair but favoring gorgeous, sculpted pop. I've Got the Music in Me is considerably slicker, with producer Gus Dudgeon assisting Dee's transition to a disco-fied soft rock with a soulful undercurrent and the occasional flash of snazzy rock.
