This is a memoir of enduring love, family, faith-and challenges. Sheila believes fate brings Barry and her together. The fairy tale of falling in love and marrying as teenagers in the Groovy Sixties are only the first steps of their journey. Of course, the busybodies in their small Southern town wait for time to tell if there's a bun in the oven and give them a snowball's chance in hell of making it. The odds are definitely against the young couple. Despite the odds and the problems inherent in most any marriage, Barry and Sheila are blessed with true love-a love the gossipmongers underestimate. Days tumble like dime store dominoes into years, and their love withstands the test of time. Barry and Sheila's story seems to have the necessary elements for a happily-ever-after ending: a devoted marriage, two healthy (albeit rambunctious) sons, and shared dreams. Life is gentle with them until their path takes an unwelcome detour. Cancer is supposed to happen to other people, and they are blindsided by the devastating diagnosis. The interloper brings with it a harsh new reality for both of them. Will their love and their faith be enough to, once again, beat the odds?
