Considering how popular the Dave Brubeck Quartet was during the 1950s (even before recording "Take Five"), it is surprising that there are not more semi-authorized live sessions available. This CD from the small Jazz Band label features the pianist/leader, altoist Paul Desmond, bassist Norman Bates and drummer Joe Dodge on a pair of well-recorded 1956 radio broadcasts live from Basin Street in New York; in addition there are three cuts from a March 1957 appearance at Chicago's Blue Note (with Joe Morello on drums).
