Heading out of the station with one of the world's best singalongs ("John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt"), Little Red Caboose keeps on shoveling the coal with "Polly Put the Kettle On" and employs a banjo and synthesized harmonica to give an express version of "I've Been Working on the Railroad" plenty of steam -- and that's just the first three songs. While a few tracks in the middle of the set slow things down, the jaunty piano breaks and fun wordplay of "Hunk of Tin" get things moving again, setting up a strong finish that pairs "I Wish I Were a Little Bar of Soap" with "A Peanut Sat on a Railroad Track," two songs that should have junior engineers everywhere laughing in their overalls (the former, after all, does say "heinie" in the chorus). Overall, Little Red Caboose is more consistently entertaining and fun than many of Madacy's children's music releases because it tries its best to vary its instrumentation while keeping its more precocious qualities to a minimum. A full lyric sheet is included with the album. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi
