In order to improve the urban environment, he authored a guide to gardening and urban beautification. Amongst his other works are Myths & Legends of Our Own Land (1896), Myths & Legends of Our New Possessions & Protectorate (1900) and Little Gardens: How to Beautify City Yards and Small Country Spaces (1904).
