I PREFACE T0 uiscnnmmaeus mscrs, 201 Having' finishedall that I think necessary to say concerning Linnaeus and his works, I shall now come to what relates immediately to myself. only. First then as to the translation, I have endeavoured to avoid making it too literal, and' servile; but yet, I hope, without taking any undue liberties, or deviating from the sense of the originals. The part which is likely to prove least agreeable to the reader, .is that which was most troublesome to the translator, Imean the names of things not generally known.
