An adventurous little mouse named, Lily, finds a cozy new home in a shoe box, inside a tall stone church, and along the way, also finds God. The fun and colorful illustrations of this book were uniquely done using fabric applique. Cathy Scott lives in Carmel, Indiana with her dog, Griffy. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa and has two adult children, who also live in the Indianapolis area. She has been involved with Christian education for many years, and loves the natural curiosity small children have about God and church. Cathy is an avid sewer, and enjoyed the new challenge of creating illustrations with fabric. The "bountiful garden" in the story is an actual garden at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Carmel, Indiana. It is an ongoing ministry in the form of a vegetable garden, whose bounty is given to local food pantries. The vegetables are also used in meals cooked by the children of the parish for Outreach. The stack of shoe boxes in the story also really exists. The boxes are used for the Christmas Shoe Box Project, a two year old project where parishioners may fill a shoe box with specific small items, which are then distributed by local schools to children in need.
