The synopsis given for this story fails to clearly describe it as a mythopoetic allegory of man's spiritual evolution. I agree that it's MacDonald's masterpiece, and now having read it, it's clearly evident how his writing would have positively influenced Tolkien, Lewis, and most likely a host of others, including J.K. Rowling... I find myself staggered by MacDonald's achievement in creating a story that displays a profound understanding/comprehension of the history and karma of the human soul. Granted, there are numerous passages that slow the narrative with antiquated language or mores, yet they lend charm and balance overall, creating a believable context from which the Truth strides.

Lilith
This was one George Macdonald book that was hard for me to understand, I am going to read it again until I do understand it.
