Seller's Description:
Good. No Jacket. Inscribed by the author to Rev. Quay on the fly leaf. According to the 'Historical Papers and Addresses of the Lancaster County, Volumes 26-7' Gurley, on behalf of the American Colonization Society, was sent to Lancaster County on March 11, 1855 to give a speech on the topic of African colonization. Rev. Quay, the agent of the Pennsylvania Colonization Society, offered the opening prayers. Quoting from the Papers, 'The meeting was addressed in an eloquent and impressive manner by Gurley....who, as is well known, had been engaged for more than thirty years laboring faithfully for the liberation and elevation of the colored race at home and abroad. ' A book that is scarcely found signed by the author, here with an impressive, and recorded association. 1839, Second Edition. Hardcover, in later blue cloth. 396, 160 pp. Engraved frontis of Ashmun. Front hinge complete separated. Light foxing and staining throughout. A small piece from the lower left corner of the title page is missing. A solid, but wanting copy, with an excellent inscription.
