Grandparents have the best stories. Thinking back over her long life, and using excerpts from her husband's war-time diary, a loving grandmother writes her memories of the waning years of the American Revolution. Lorna-Kay Byrd is a high-spirited young South Carolinian woman living in what the Indians consider their territory, and the Americans consider their territory. One night in April 1780, the village of Rosemont is mysteriously attacked. A week later, a regiment of British soldiers is seen marching towards them. All flee for their lives; except Lorna-Kay, who selflessly volunteers to remain behind and guide any more fleeing Patriots. Instead, she is captured by a regiment of Scotsmen under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Coinneach MacGillivray. The next five months find Lorna-Kay trying to live a normal life under extraordinary circumstances. When she is kidnapped by an Indian, it is up to a coalition of Scotsmen, American soldiers, and Cherokee Indians to find and free her. Set against a tumultuous period in US history, Life Isna a Bed o' Roses is the tale of two people who have taken the two greatest commandments to heart: love of God, and love of neighbor. Through their actions towards those they meet, each in their own way proves that love does conquer all.
