Each volume bears the ownership signatures of Philemon Dickinson (three struck through) and his son Samuel Dickenson. Philemon Dickinson (1739-1809), a native of Maryland, served with distinction during the Revolutionary War as a Brigadier General of the New Jersey militia, and was later elected to the Continental Congress from Delaware and to the United States Senate from New Jersey; he was the brother of the more famous John Dickinson (1732-1808), Governor of Pennsylvania and patriot. Evans 14471. OCLC locates 13 complete copies (NYU, Syracuse, San Diego State, Yale, Library of Congress, Notre Dame, Harvard, Cleveland Public, Villanova, American Antiquarian Society, Library Company, Mt.
