Seller's Description:
None. Very Good. The first edition of these historical notes on the Boer War by Spenser Wilkinson, who was an influential figure in military matters. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Henry Spenser Wilkinson (1853-1937) was an English writer. From 1882 to 1892, he wrote occasional pieces on military subjects for the Manchester Guardian. Convinced as early as 1874 that Britain was inadequately armed, he increasingly devoted his attention to the subject of the national defence. He became a key figure in the founding of the Navy League of Great Britain in 1894. Wilkinson's views on military affairs remained widely influential until his death. During the early months of the Boer War (1899-1900) he made remarkably accurate forecasts of military movements. Here he comments on lessons learned from the Boer War, from week to week, until the relief of Ladysmith. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with some bumping to the boards and to the head of the spine, and some fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd spot throughout, more so to the first and last few pages. Very Good.
