Good. Size: 8vo 8"-9" tall; A perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy. Rebound solidly, covered at some point in the past with a green-and-brown marbled paper over boards, and being backed in a green leather, perhaps incorporating the original gilt-lettered leather label to spine. Some loss of marbled paper, some scuffing of spine head and foot, wear along edges, but interior is bright and clean for the first 240 pp., unmarked, then followed by a more heavily foxed but still clean text, "Roi et President, " being 48 pp. French language text. Alexandre Weill was born in 1811 and lived until 1899, and was born in Alsace, having trained for the Rabbinate in Frankfurt, where he also studied languages and literature. A Wikipedia article about him says that he abandoned a career in religious and left for Paris where, under the tutelage of Heinrich Heine, he joined and led several literary salons. Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
