Not illustrated. 1897 edition. Excerpt: ...herewith shall remain in force under this act until altered, amended, or repealed by the city council, after this act takes effect. Sec. 185. That every ordinance passed by the city council shall be enrolled by the secretary within the next succeeding five days, Sundays ex-cepted, or as soon thereafter as practicable. It shall then be carefully compared with the original bill and all amendments, if any, by at least one member of the committee that may be charged with that duty by the city council. If errors exist they shall be corrected. If no errors exist, or if found, then after their correction, the member making the comparison shall endorse on the margin, the words, "Correctly enrolled," and give the date thereof and subscribe his name thereto. Whereupon the same shall be delivered to the mayor for his consideration. If the mayor approve the same, it shall become a law. If he fail to approve or object within ten days, exclusive of the day of presentation and Sunday, should that intervene, the same shall become a law without his signature. But if, within said time, he shall veto the same, he shall present his written objections to the council by filing the same with the city secretary, and unless the council pass the ordinance over the mayor's veto by the majority hereinbefore provided, the same shall not become a law. Sec. 18(5. The city council shall have the right to remit, in whole or in part, any fine or penalty belonging to the city, which may be imposed under any ordinance or resolution passed in pursuance of this act/---'.
