On the linguistic side the material is also abundmt, but less definite and serviceable. . The inscription, papyri and other literature, supply no connected chain of evidence. So many dialects are found, so many idioms, and eo many exceptions to anything like a general rule, that the coustruction of a complete grammar and syntax i quite impossible. No doubt more will be whiovcd in this respect when Hittite and other obscure writings have been clearly read and interpreted.
