Lady In The Dark is a musical that is almost forgotten today since it has never been revived on Broadway. My Ship, its most famous song, is considered a standard and the Saga of Jenny is one of the all time great theatre songs. The author tells the story of the creation of this revolutionary musical, its creators, its run on Broadway and national tour and its great star Gertrude Lawrence. From my perspective I would have prefferd less highly technical discussion on music form and construction. I dont know an AABA from ABBA. More background on the Broadway environment of the day would have added to the book. Overall it is a great chapter in the history of American musical theatre and a very enlightening book.
