I love Austen and re-read her regularly, so when I heard about Lady Susan I decided to try reading it. I already knew it was flawed but wondered just how bad it could be. Turns out, pretty bad. I would recommend this only to a friend who is an Austen freak.
Lady Susan is written completely in the form of correspondence and, according to Margaret Drabble, is an early experiment in style. It can be difficult to get to know characters when you only get to know them this way. I don't think the fault of the book lies in the format but in the totally unattractive, self-centered main character.
