Excerpt from Laboratory Equipment for Psychological Experiments, Vol. 3: Of a Series of Text-Books Designed to Introduce the Student to the Methods and Principles of Scientific Psychology The description of exercises given in Volume II of this series was of set purpose dissociated from the description of apparatus, in view of the fact that the same laboratory exercise may be tried with a very great variety of dif ferent kinds of material aids These material aids can be mastered by the student very much better m the pres ence of the apparatus than through any written description. After he has mastered a given piece of apparatus he should be called upon to give a description of the construction and working of the apparatus in his report. The present volume is, accordingly, not designed primarily for the student. If the student is called upon to prepare his own apparatus as well as work out the exercises, this book will be of advantage to him; it may very properly be used therefore, by graduate students who are preparing to teach the subject. Its chief function, however, will be in offer ing suggestions to those who wish to give demonstrations or to teach laboratory courses.
