Previous owner bookplate on inside front cover as well as name in pencil on title page: John Howland Rowe, Paris, February 15, 1946. No other markings in book. John Howland Rowe (1918-2004) was an American archaeologist and anthropologist known for his extensive research on Peru, especially on the Inca civilization. Between 1944 to 1946 he served as sergeant in the U.S. Combat Engineers in Europe.
