The first French edition of this famous work on Italy by Lady Morgan. It was proscribed by the King of Sardinia, the Emperor of Austria and the Pope, but Lord Byron bore testimony to the justness of its pictures of life. Containing descriptions of life through Italy with historical notes. Sydney, Lady Morgan was an Irish novelist, best known for 'The Wild Irish Girl, ' a romantic novel with political and social commentary. Her work often caused controversy and faced censorship.  Translated from the French.  Rebound in uniform decorative board with titles in gilt to morocco spine labels, renewed endpapers. Externally lovely with only light bumping to head and tail of spine. Previous ownership ink inscriptions to half titles, dated 1827 to vol. I. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting scattered to leaves. Pages gently cockled due to possible damp. Very Good Indeed.
