Clara und die Tochter geraten durch Evakuierungsma???nahmen nach Ostpreu???en und fliehen von dort in den letzten Kriegsjahren mit einem Treck zur???ck in den Westen. Inzwischen bekommt Clara ein zweites, uneheliches Kind, den Sohn Rudolf. Alfred ist an der Ostfront vermisst. Dorothea w???chst heran, sie lebt mit Mutter und Bruder bei dem Rest der Familie in den Tr???mmern von Hamburg in einer engen Wohnung. Alle Not dieser Zeit muss gemeinsam durchgestanden werden, Hunger, K???lte, Hamstern, Schwarzmarkt und Konflikte. Diese Zeit ist aus der Sicht des Kindes geschildert. Die h???sslichste Erfahrung des kleinen M???dchens, versuchter Missbrauch durch den Gro???vater, sprengt die Familienidylle. Clara verl???sst das Elternhaus und nur Rudolf bleibt bei der Oma.
