Great movie; inaccurate synopsis
This is one of my favorite movies. Please note: the synopsis from Hal Erickson is woefully inaccurate, and suggests that he never actually watched the film. The bike-mounted pseudomedieval tournaments are not a "money-making gimmick"; they're part of a Camelot-inspired way of life for the main characters. The main conflict arrives when the troupe is split over whether to sign with a promoter and go commercial. This reflects the essential decision made by independent artists (such as director George Romero) between making art the way they want to, or compromising their vision for the sake of funding and commercial success.
This theme is played out with humor, pathos and plenty of motorcycle action, all influenced overtly or subtextually by Arthurian tropes. Ed Harris' second movie, and a very intense performance. I get something new every time I watch this film, which is once or twice a year. Good times.
