I suppose it was my first book read in English, so my review might be a bit idealized.
The book itself is based on some hints in storyline of a classic computer game entitled "DOOM". Most people wouldn't expect too much from such a book, but Dafydd and Brad did a fine job filling up large gaps of the story and 'tame', in a way, almost all of the elements found in the game. Fast pace, a lot of action, atmosphere of mystery and horror, continuous uncertainty about the future of the main protagonist and whole humanity - that's what makes this book so good. It's not a stupid book about shooting tons of evil monsters as one might think. Yeah, there are a lot of monsters, but there is also a whole story and plot. As a non-English native speaker, I liked the slang and language play used in the book (although, I suppose, it wasn't too deep for a native English speaker).
Easy and engrossing read for everyone who needs some entertainment. Followed up by three more books. I encourage you to read Book 2 - 'Hell on Earth', but trust me: you don't want to read Books 3 and 4! Don't touch them and you'll be fine.
