Poets, scientists, musicians, artists, historians, and more have come together in this volume to discuss the impact of the KJV in their own disciplines. This book is not an argument for using only the KJV, but is a celebration of the way God used this translation to impact so many spheres of life. Sadly, too many people only know of the KJV from argumentative contexts (arguing for or against its exclusive use), and they fail to recognize its beauty and positive impact on our world. This book collects essays from an event held at Union University in 2011 in honor of the 400th anniversary of the KJV. "The goal of this book (and the event from which it emerged) then is not simply nostalgia. Rather, the aim is to celebrate God's mighty deeds of the past with an eye to how we may be a part of his work in the future. The story of the KJV is one part of the grand story of making the Word of God available to people, as many people as possible. It is a story of unity as different factions on the Church of England came together to produce a translation which would unite, in many ways, English speaking Christians for centuries as, despite their differences, they all had a common Bible, a common religious language. It is an example of the church leading the culture rather than following it as is sadly so often the case today. The KJV continues to be a touchstone and standard in English literature and oratory, as even unbelieving writers look to and appreciate its style and rhythm. The story of the KJV is the story of missions and evangelism as this translation was the translation behind the great missionary movement of the 19th century and the Great Awakenings" (taken from the Introduction)
