The book is about Kiyo's life. Her family worked very hard. If their life wasn't tough enough, they were placed in an internment camp. Kiyo's journey from a Japanese American farm girl to nurse was a arduous, but she persevered. The book is a tribute to what a family can accomplish in America.

History
A wonderful story about an American Japanese familys' resilience, determination and fortitude in the face of injustice and discrimination. Their love for this country continued in spite of it all.

Good read, important topic
Heartfelt, personal autobiography about a young woman's experience in a Japanese American Internment Camp (in the United States) during World War II. I am Japanese American myself, and I grew up knowing what my family experienced,. It is important for everyone to think about how fragile civil liberties can be, and the effect on people when taken away.
