Seller's Description:
b/w Photos. Near Fine in Near Fine jacket. First edition. From Library Journal MacMillan is one of today's leading choreographers, though his work is controversial and has generated almost as much criticism as praise. He has served as director of the Berlin Opera Ballet and the Royal Ballet and is currently associate director of American Ballet Theatre. He has created over 50 ballets. MacMillan choreographs abstract dances, but his commitment to narrative ballet and psychologically charged subjects has secured him a special place in dance history. Thorpe's biography is formulistic; he cites ballets, listing designers, composers, and dancers, and excerpts reviews. He does not gloss over the lows in MacMillan's career, but neither does he offer many insights into the talent and artistic vision of his subject. Nonetheless, this is a very serviceable volume; for medium and large libraries. Joan Stahl, Enoch Pratt Free Lib., Baltimore Copyright 1986 Reed Business Information, Inc.
