Keeping the Lights on for Ike
This book presents an interesting historical glimpse into World War II
events, in all its tragedy and triumph. Additionally, Rebecca Daniels gives us a zoom lens, into the personal thoughts, emotions, and ideas of her father who was in both Africa and Italy during the War, working as an engineer to keep the lights functioning for the American soldiers. Half documentary half diary, Rebecca's compelling narrative, keeps us wanting to read more as we learn what it was like for the life of an engineer near the front lines, and what it was like to have been in war-torn countries like Italy, decimated by the Nazi's. Though a dark time, this book invites us into a love story between a husband and wife, and the way a devoted wife and honorable man managed to keep their lives connected half a world away. Rebecca Daniels does a masterful job of allowing her Fathers voice to echo, through her own and her artful storytelling keeps us as the reader thoroughly engaged. This is a book that will appeal to many!
