Kindly as he was used, and it was impossible he could receive more kindness any where, he had not forgot the master who had formerly cherished him, and whom he had lost through his own negligence and inattention. He began to entertain a better opinion of mankind than he had lately been induced to form: but still, of all the race, he loved none so dearly as his master; and next to him, his family.' The conversation happened, one day, to bring on this subject. Caroline was much grieved to hear it the general opinion that Keeper would leave her as soon as he was well. She urged the well known gratitude of the species, in contradiction of ah idea which she thought at once disgraceful to Keeper's character and her attention.
