The work by Estonian composer Jaan Rääts is especially useful here. The teacher of many contemporary Estonian composers (although not of Pärt), Rääts in the Kaleidoscopic Etudes, Op. 97, offers small static fragments that stand in strong contrast to each other. Despite the plural title, the work is in a single movement. For many buyers, the Pärt work, unusual within his output, will be the main attraction. It's not quite an arrangement of the slow movement of Mozart's Piano Sonata in F major, K. 280, but a sort of minimalist atomization of it, framed with an original introduction and coda.
