Additionally, her characteristic use of electronic instruments to accent traditional orchestral writing is on wonderful display in the six-movement Circle Map, where the electronics present distorted versions of the Persian texts of the poet Rumi that give each movement its title. For an ideal place to start with Saariaho, consider Neiges ("Snows," bringing to mind the old and slightly inaccurate idea of the many words for kinds of snow among the Inuit), offered here in a version for 12 cellos that receives its world premiere.
