The main premise of the story is that, after WWII, a Jewish homeland is formed in the southern part of East Germany. This seems like a promising idea for a book, but the narrative is very hard to follow. The text is broken into what seem more like soundbites than chapters, with each containing a narrative that seems to be unconnected to the previous. The story contains many obscure references and allusions, the characters are not well-developed, and the writing style is what I can only describe a "flat."
Three-quarters of the way through the book, I realized that I was so confused that it was pointless to continue. I can't recommend this book, but the premise clearly provides fertile ground for a story, and someone, maybe even this author, could probably create a very interesting story from it.
