The Carice Singers, a small, youthful choir named after Edward Elgar's daughter, have just the right jubilant, collegiate sound for this music; there are a few rough edges that actually enhance the performances rather than detract from them. There are a few pieces that demand the genre designation of choral music rather than partsong, but sample the pure madrigalian spirit of Moeran's collection Phyllida and Corydon, perhaps "Said I that Amaryllis", for a taste of both the spirit of the whole and the pedestrian...
