But he-had a few hundred francs in his pocket, and the treafures of the Luxembourg and the Louvre were, at laft, within his reach. And it is to be conjectured that' he was tolerably happy, though he difliked the city itfelf, and was not at all in fympathy with the facts and circuml'cances of his environment.
