This is a book that I come back to from time to time, to read some of my favorite passages again. I will be re-reading it again in the future.
Like many of Berry's books, there are multiple story lines, a gradual evolution to the story, and turns and unexpected surprises. There are chapters where you may ask: "what was the point of that?" But I can think of few books so rewarding to the reader upon completion.

This book, and its author, have been around for a long time. I am just discovering all that Wendell Berry has to say about rural American in the 1930's and 40's and what he finds of value in his native place. Berry's social criticism resonates with me.
