Seller's Description:
Good/Good (overall light shelfwear to edges and corners of boards and block edges, library stamp on first fly leaf, light age staining to dust jacket) Red cloth boards with aqua lettering on front cover and spine, white dust jacket with red and aqua lettering and mylar cover, unpaginated, 190 illustrations, 14 in color. "The first extensive study of John's complete graphic work to date, ranging from Target, his first essay into lithography at Universal Limited Art Editions, the atelier that stimulated the resurgence of lithography during the 1960's. There Johnes returned to problems he had previously dealt with in drawing, painting, and sculpture: targets, coat-hangers, flags, numbers, ale cans. The constant repetition and variation of his own images have resulted in an extraordinarily integrated oeuvre; yet each version provokes the viewer, questions his perceptions as each theme is re-examined and restated. IN 1966, Johns began to experiment with etching and in 1968 and 1969, he expanded his scope still further to embossed prints and the controversial lead reliefs."-Dust jacket.
