Wonderful Firsthand Account
Alfred Schultz's intimate account of life and death at the controls of his battle-hardened Piper Cub is a great contribution to the war's anecdotal history. The well written, wonderfully entertaining narrative ranges from the mundane, often humorous routine of Army life to the excitement, chaos and tragedy of combat. As a pilot and writer myself, I highly recommend it to anyone interested in World War II in general; Africa, the Mediterranean or the European Theatre in particular; military aviation generally or the war's unsung tube-and-fabric planes specifically. If you're as lucky as I, you might even find a copy signed by "Dutch" Schultz himself!
