The function of these active limitations is to reverse the strain of this depressive disorder if this becomes too heavy and is experienced as a "new danger" (Freud) and causes too much fear. These psychotic mechanisms lead to particular clinical phenomena such as for example the projection of interest in the analysis on to the analyst, forgetting thought associations, latent aroused-dazed states of consciousness etc. Neurotic patients do not receive fundamental existential psychoanalytic support until there is sufficient theoretical and clinical courage to examine the psychotic elements in their ego functions in their relationship to the analyst. Psychotische Mechanismen bei neurotischen Patienten heben die Verbindung zur Realitat auf: zur inneren und ausseren Realitat und zu den Funktionen des Ich, die der Wahrnehmung der inneren und ausseren Realitat dienen. So werden beispielsweise das Bewusstsein, die Aufmerksamkeit, das Gedachtnis, die Neugier oder auch die Urteilsfahigkeit aktiv verandert und eingeschrankt. Die Funktion dieser aktiven Einschrankungen ist es, die Belastungen der depressiven Position ruckgangig zu machen, wenn diese zu schwer wird, also als 'neue Gefahr' (Freud) erlebt wird und zu grosse Angst hervorruft. Diese psychotischen Mechanismen fuhren zu besonderen klinischen Phanomenen wie etwa der Projektion von Interesse an der Analyse in den Analytiker, Vergessen von Gedankenverbindungen, latent erregt-benommene Bewusstseinszustande usw. Neurotischen Patienten wachst erst dann ein existenztragender analytischer Beistand zu, wenn genugend theoretischer und klinischer Mut vorhanden ist, die psychotischen Elemente in ihren Ich-Funktionen in der Beziehung zum Analytiker zu untersuchen.
