The interested principals are Frank B. Taylor and Charles H. Madden, the business dating its inception back to 1879, when the former gentleman idaugurated operations upon a most moderate scale in a little retail establishment whose development into the present magnificent enterprise has been the diametrical result of the active zeal, indefatigable efforts and discriminating management of Mr. Taylor--one to whom the title " a thorough business man" is pertinently applicable. The main building occupied is three stories and basement in height, with lateral dimensions 132x30 feet, but this very considerable space represents only a small portion of that used in the display of the very large and comprehensive stock in both the wholesale and retail departments. Three additional buildings are required for ware and display rooms--one being 22 x 50 feet, two stories and basement; the second annex 25 x 40 feet, and three stories in height, and the third, 22 x6o feet. The entire floor space utilized is nearly 24,000 square feet, and when it is stated that every portion of this space is utilized, an idea of the extent of the stock may be gained. The first floor of the main building contains the general retail stock, and the display is one of most varied character, embracing full lines of bazaar and house-furnishing goods, notions, art novelties, fancy goods, articles of virtu, bric-a-brac, etc.--a display that entirely baffles description in this connection, and one that is not excelled in the entire State.
