This is the first of two CDs put out by Jass that reissue all of the Standard Transcriptions recorded by Jack Teagarden's big band for radio airplay. These recordings are generally quite superior to his studio sides of the period. Although the trombonist did not have a great big band, his solos and those of trumpeter Pokey Carriere hold one's interest. A young David Allyn, Lynn Clark and Mr. T. himself have the vocals but half of the selections are swinging instrumentals. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
