When King Solomon died and the kingdom went to his son Rehoboam, the people wanted him to lift the taxation to some relief. However, Solomon's son tax the people even more, and he was even harsher than his father. Therefore, the nation of Israel had enough, and the kingdom of Israel split into a Northern kingdom, under the rule of Jeroboam, and Rehoboam is left with one tribe made up of Judah and Benjamin. They became known as the Southern Kingdom. We are about to explore the behavior of a succession of kings--good and evil. When good kings rule the nation usually prospers, but when bad kings rule, the whole nation suffers.
