Arid of sheen, spreads darkness' coast, Where late light's ocean waves, bright tost, Seem falling on that gloomy shore There prone, are glorious no more--Gods, that can live not without light But where is darkness, pass from sight, Grand masses of empurpled mists, With streaks pale pink upon their crests Light floating--slow they seem to die, Gasping for fulgence silently, Without a struggle, at each gasp Breathing of splendour fainter hreath, And will, till coming leaden grasp Of night them shroud 'mid glooms of death.
