You might not be overly attracted to an album of transcriptions of music by Ireland, an English (not Irish) composer of the early and middle 20th century who is of only middling renown. Most of the music here originated as piano music or violin-and-piano music, not an easy transfer to cello and piano in either case, and it's not as though performances of the originals are abundant enough to justify variant version. But the John Ireland Trust, which commissioned these arrangements, had sound instincts. Ireland's orchestral pieces are not numerous, and many of those that exist are either for occasional use or from early in his career. Ireland himself was an inveterate arranger of his own work.
