The bulk of the book is devoted to 177 poems of twenty-seven of the more prominent poets of these five centuries. For each poet, the biography is followed by a collection of some of the poet's finest or most representative works illustrated with drawings, paintings, photographs and photocopies of handwritten manuscripts. At the end of the book, there is a dictionary of literary terms and an alphabetical index of the poems. This textbook is suitable for use in upper division university courses and in advanced high school programs.
