My library shelved this in non-fiction, but Holt states in his introduction that they are stories, barely based on real cases. The dialogue is clunky, not the sound of real speech, and the diagnoses and endings are predictable. I didn't finish it. There are better medical writers, Atul Gawande, Jerome Groopman, Sherwin Nuland for example.
