INHERITANCE TELLS A STORY IN 2 VOICES. ONE IS THE FATHER'S AND ONE IS THE DAUGHTER'S. BOTH ARE EQUALLY COMPELLING AND INTERESTING. I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS NOVEL AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT WITHOUT HESITATION.

This One's a Winner
Enjoyed Natalie Danford's first novel very much. Olivia, the daughter of an Italian immigrant to the United States, travels to Italy to discover why her father had a deed to a house in Urbino. The narrative moves skilfully back and forth between the daughter's and the father's points of view, and comes to a surprising and satisfying conclusion. Olivia's experiences in Urbino, including a sensual love affair, are told with a clarity that brings the Italian town to life for the reader. The descriptions of meals, their preparation and enjoyment, are detailed in a way one might expect from this writer, who has already authored a couple of cookbooks.

Inheritance -- entrancing and fascinating
This first novel by Natalie Danford has a riveting story that compels you to keep reading from the very first moment. The two protagonists are father and daughter, and the story is told from both their perspectives, shifting seamlessly back and forth in time and voice. The father's story as an emigre from Italy after WWII keeps his deepest thoughts and experiences hidden from himself as well as the reader until finally revealed to his daughter decades later. The mystery is serious and deep, having seriously affected the lives of these characters in more ways than they themselves even know. And Danford's beautiful prose is simply a privilege to read. You won't be able to get these people out of your mind; they simply ring too true to forget.
