It is the work of the blood and tears of long genera tions of men. It is not in man, inborn or innate, but is enshrined in his traditions, in his customs, in his literature and his religion.1 If this be true, as an ascertained fact of science, then is it any wonder that India should cling to the, heritage of her own past traditions, and seek to retain the birthright won for her by the intellectual labours and ascetic penances of past generations?
