With In Motion, guitarist David Becker unveiled a new edition of his David Becker Tribune. Sibling Bruce Becker was still on drums, but the guitarist had newcomer Tom Lilly on electric bass instead of Bob Mair. What didn't change considerably was the sound of the band. Becker still favored a style of fusion that was melodic and lyrical, yet had much more of an edge than the fluffy instrumental pop that was being wrongly described as smooth jazz.
